Another option if you do not want to go with a USB player or worry about Audio out from a receiver or AV Processor is the NAD PP3i ($199). There are a few others out there, but they are creeping into the $500+ price range. I am looking at this unit for myself so I can plug my turntable into it, use a USB cable to connect to my Mac Mini and rip the albums with the NAD software ($25 extra). It helps with tagging the songs, removing clicks and pops, and exports to various audio files including ALAC, which is what I use.
Software RIAA equalization is available at no cost. There is arguments that it might be even more acurate then a real phono preamp, certainly cheaper.
If budget is unlimited then yes, buy everything. But if you have only $199 to spend. Buy a new photo cartridge or something that really will have a huge impact on the sound.
The way to ask this question is "given the gear I already own and my budget what new gear will give the best sound?" the answer is different for everyone. Its not a defect, its a "feature" of 4.2 ... they've reduce the power to the port from 100 ma to 20 ma. This is to stop people using things Apple dont like in the port (USB drives, keyboards etc), but its also stopped compatibility with half of the SD cards in the world.
There own camera connection kit is now fatally flawed under this update. Bad Apple.

What is going on in the software dept at 1 infinite loop?
Not only is this update overdue, but its the only one of Apple's own iPhone apps to even be touched for iOS4 or the iPhone 4.
None of the Apps have been updated to a universal version with iPad support.
Oh, but Find my iPhone was critically important to have out on launch...:confused:
It's embarrassing.
I mean, what kind of example does this set for other devs? Apple expects their developers of technically completed products (apps) to be updated asap to support all of the latest features of the latest devices. Yet they themselves have half a dozen critical apps that haven't even been touched?

The closest you can get is subscribing to threads you post in and then looking at the list in your User CP. There is no notification mechanism for individual posts and individual user's posts.

In OS X you can literally control just about any aspect of the the operating system via terminal. I would argue that an expert *nix user has more "unrestricted control" over OS X than an expert windows user can have under XP.
I am sure many OSX Server admins will disagree with you on this one.

im getting pissed at sprint because their 3G plans suck total ass. they have not planned mac compatibility with ANY of their new phones, so they will soon be getting the axe from me. If apple doesnt come out with a new phone by mid2003, then I will by the Moto v600 which should be out by that time.

I run torchlight just fine on my 4 year old MBP... but that game was designed for a netbook ;)
I remember when L4D came out, and my (at the time 2 year old MBP I believe) only met the minimum requirements... The general rule of thumb is, if you're a PC gamer, you keep a PC to game on, or you stop gaming.

I still have a MOD library on my Amiga that I plan to port to my Mac sometime. Meanwhile they play in SoundTracker, I think it's called. I remember how impressed people were with my music library playing from my computer... in the early 90s :)
I liked playing with MED/OctaMED too. And Aegis Sonix.

Pages is perfectly fine for word processing, which I know from experience as I been using it for that purpose every day for nearly two years. Most of the people who say otherwise either haven't learned to use it or would have preferred that Apple produce a Word clone. Some of are very happy that they did not go that route.

Office isn't even installed on my PowerBook anymore, and I've been using Pages and Keynote quite successfully on campus (where lots of classes and professors want lots of word and powerpoints all the time) for two semesters now and am glad I made the switch. I'm excited to hear about Lasso.

I followed instructions that I came across on the internet to reinstall mac os x as I just got an iMac second hand.
Was not given the option to 'Erase and install' and instead followed through the install and now things are not working properly.
I noted down that it was OS X 10.1.5 now it is OS X 10.1.2.
When I start up it only shows the display and the time in the top right corner. Will not display dock or finder.
Please help! What can I do to fix this?

Not sure the sarcastic comments and put downs were required, I thought I made it quite clear I didn't know what I was doing, hence asking for advice. To reiterate my question and perhaps make it more clear - I was hoping someone might know of a online resource or book which would give guidance on what type of font works well in certain circumstances. Such a thing might not exist as it's such a broad area and very specific to each illustration or logo, but in the interests of self improvement I thought I would ask.

Can you see the drive in OS X? If so install NTFS-3G (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/ntfs3g.html), backup your files, remove the partition and reinstall.
That's the only solution afaik if the repair tool doesn't work.

Why not use Finder to just backup all your files and folders you are interested in, then reinstall Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and then get back the files and folders you were interested in from the backup you made before you reinstalled Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard?
